Program at a Glance

Gain the sophisticated understanding of environmental studies that is fundamental to informed citizenship and participation in public life, particularly in the context of global climate change and widespread environmental injustice. TCNJ’s environmental studies program offers an interdisciplinary approach that enables you to benefit from direct, applied experiences while learning to develop and implement realistic solutions.

Program Director: Diane Bates, bates@tcnj.edu

Who Should Pursue This Program?

This program is ideal if you’re eager to understand — and learn to effectively address — environmental quality, environmental change, and the disproportionate harm from climate change and other environmental problems. You will not only study the natural sciences but also learn to analyze environmental issues from a human health, social scientific, policy, humanities, and/or business perspective. If your interest is in environmental science, consider double-majoring in environmental studies and a science discipline.

Careers

Environmental studies graduates are well suited for any career requiring a liberal arts degree, including but not limited to businesses involved in the energy transition; environmental protection and conservation; transportation, planning, and public policy; regulatory administration (including environmental law); research and design; and waste reduction and management.
